If you’re wondering about…

ME:

I’m a freelance writer and editor. And I deliver. I mean that both literally and figuratively.

Literally, I will deliver my services, my self, the tools of my trade, and the words I write, wherever you need them to be. I travel with my own portable office (the smallest version of which fits in a backpack). I can also work from my own office, and simply deliver the words to you, in whatever format you require.

As for figuratively, well, I don’t like to brag — but then, the point of writing this page is to do exactly that. So, I don’t mind telling you I can write in a variety of styles, always tailored to the needs of the project at hand. I can write at length and in detail, when necessary. Conversely, I can shape an entire message the size of a tweet.

Yeah, I hear you: who believes what they read on a self promoting About page? Well, don’t take my word for it, check it out yourself. Look at some of my ongoing and past projects, readily available online.

EXAMPLES:

I write and consult about technology, striving to translate Geekery into plain English, at Mykl.biz. You’ll find more examples of the like at Geekery.Mykl.org, on my personal web site. For tweet size geekery, follow @MYKLbiz on Twitter or befriend me on Facebook.

Speaking of my personal web site, you’ll find examples of my informal writing style in my notebook at Journal.Mykl.org, and the occasional haiku or personal reflection at Daily.Mykl.org.

I write micro-reviews of movies, television and other media at FeralFilm.com, likewise on Twitter or Facebook.

You may already have noticed, I occasionally share Twitter-sized bites in this “notepad” you’re reading now. You can also follow these posts on Twitter or Facebook.

If you wonder what inspires me, I share short examples of writing I admire at Renga.Mykl.org, echoed on Twitter or Facebook.

Think of these various projects as my living portfolio. If you subscribe to this blog, I’ll let you know as I publish others.

WORK STYLE:

Of course, what I write is only half the story of how I work. What is it like working with me? I am equally experienced and comfortable working solo, co-writing, or simply polishing and editing other people’s words. Tell me what you’re trying to accomplish; I’ll make it my job to help you get there. Tell me how you hope to go about it; I’ll adapt my workflow to it.

All of the projects linked above are self-directed. But most of my freelance jobs are collaborative. When I come to work on your project, I leave my ego at home. (That’s what my personal projects are for.) In a team, I tend to be honest and direct, but flexible, focused on shaping the best words, the clearest message, whatever the circumstances.

ADDITIONAL SERVICES:

I’ve been writing for four decades and working professionally for three. Along the way, I’ve picked up a few other skills.

Some clients hire me not so much to edit the words, as to wrangle multiple collaborators: to corral and correlate their (sometimes conflicting) contributions into a cohesive whole. As an outsider, I can do this objectively, usually summoning less resentment than an overly familiar face in the workplace.

Do your words need to be read in front of a camera or an audience? My writing is informed by 20 years working as a scriptwriter and producer. Furthermore, when the script is complete, I can provide teleprompter services, and have done for 25 years. Hiring me to handle your script, from conception through production, assures a continuity of thought that could get lost, were that work to move through many different hands.

What else can I do, outside the scope of writing and editing? I love learning new things, and don’t like standing still. Read how I’ve kept myself busy at Resume.Mykl.biz.

I’d like to hear about you…

Enough about me. Tell me about yourself and what you’re working on now. What’s your next project? Please, feel free to write!
